Liberal Democrats in Bedford & Kempston have hit out at the government's failure to listen to the concerns of people in our area over post office closures. The Government announced on Thursday (17th May) that they will continue with their plan to close at least 2,500 post offices across the country.

Liberal Democrats have responded to the news that the Better Bedford Party group on the Borough Council, comprising just two Councillors, is disbanding. Councillors Margaret Davey and Peter Chiswell are joining the Independent group in what appears to be a recognition of the party's diminishing strength across the Borough.

Ming Campbell, Lib Dem Leader said "Before the last General Election Tony Blair pledged to serve a full third term and the British electorate voted for him on this basis. Now the Prime Minister is leaving it is only right that the British public have their say on who will be their next Prime Minister."
