An adviser's suggestion to extend free school meals to 1.1 million extra children has been ignored by the government in their new, heavily criticised Food Strategy. The recommendation to extend free school meals to everyone on Universal Credit up to 16 was firstly watered down and then ignored by government. Bedford Borough Liberal Democrats are calling on the government to extend free school meals to all children on Universal Credit.
Refugee Week (20-26 June) is a nationwide initiative that celebrates the contributions, creativity and resilience of refugees, migrants and people seeking sanctuary to the UK and encourages better understanding between communities.
Last week, Mayor Dave Hodgson visited St James's Church, Biddenham to meet with some of Ukrainian guests that are now in Bedford Borough to hear first hand their experiences. I also visited PBIC who are coordinating support for guests and hosts to again hear about any issues.
Following the spring flowering display on the Embankment, the Council hosted a free giveaway of tulip bulbs for local community groups.
