St Mary's Street Works - Update

We're now in week three of the major roadworks to completely reconstruct St Mary's Street in Bedford. As I've written on here before, these emergency works are required after a survey showed the road to be in danger of collapsing. This was despite the fact that the road had been resurfaced just four years ago by the former County Council, which sadly failed to put drainage in place. The road is therefore having to be completely rebuilt, with the eight-week project beginning on October 3rd. The works are inevitably causing disruption to people, and we are all anxious for the project to be completed on time and to a high standard, in order that it doesn't have to be dug up again in the foreseeable future. I am pleased to report that the works are going well and despite the gas leak which caused the road to be closed completely for a few hours and stopped the work for a short while, it is on schedule so far. Over 4,000 residents supported by Household Support Fund

Over 4,000 local households have been supported with the Household Support Fund (HSF) in the last week with Bedford Borough Council making over £345,195 of payments to residents. The grants, which are funded by the Department for Work and Pensions but administered by the Council, provide support to some of the UK's most vulnerable households with rising household costs over the winter.
