In a stranger than usual public event held in the Changing Places accessible public toilet in River Street Car Park, two further toilets in Bedford were twinned, bringing the total to more than 20 in supporting Bedford Park Rotary Club's Toilet Twinning campaign, highlighting sanitation needs and improving sanitation across the globe. Work is expected to start imminently on the gateway Midland Road scheme, one part of the £22.6m Bedford Town Deal secured in June 2021.
Works have begun at Bedford College's Cauldwell Street campus for the first of six major Bedford Town Deal projects within the successful bid for £22.6m to invest in the local area.
A new grant funding scheme has been launched in Bedford Borough for voluntary organisations and community groups to help people struggling with the cost of living.
Last night, Bedford Borough Council's Climate Change Committee praised the Mayor's Climate Change Fund for providing almost £400,000 in funding for community buildings and vulnerable residents. This has amounted in almost 60 tonnes of CO2 saved per year from this fund alone. This forms part of Mayor Dave Hodgson's commitment to achieving a net zero carbon council by 2030.
As I wrote on here last week, the Council has now published a set of proposals for achieving the £10 million-plus of savings required to make next year's budget balance. With the consultation on these proposals set to be launched next week, I really do hope that people take the opportunity to have their say on what has been put forward.
