Bedford Borough Council is giving away 5,000 trees to local residents, businesses, schools and community groups to collect and plant locally. This giveaway will be held on Wednesday 15 February and Saturday 18 February, from 10am to 3pm at Oasis Beach Pool car park.
The government has failed to inject money and support local communities in Kempston in last week's Levelling Up funding announcement. It comes despite Rishi Sunak's own constituency of Richmond in Yorkshire receiving £19m of levelling up funding. If the bid had been successful, it would have provided funding to restore the Saxon Centre and invest in public space, walking and cycling infrastructure.
In a stranger than usual public event held in the Changing Places accessible public toilet in River Street Car Park, two further toilets in Bedford were twinned, bringing the total to more than 20 in supporting Bedford Park Rotary Club's Toilet Twinning campaign, highlighting sanitation needs and improving sanitation across the globe. The Bedfordshire Employment and Skills Academy (BESA) is running courses in Bedford Borough and Central Bedfordshire to help people develop their maths skills.
From Saturday 11 to Saturday 18 February, families are invited to visit Bedford Borough Libraries for free fun craft activities. Bedford Central, Bromham, Kempston, Putnoe, and Wootton libraries all have activities planned. Crafts include; creating bug masks, paper bag dinosaurs, and Valentine's Day Cards. There will also be colouring and Lego clubs in all the libraries. Bedford Central Library has a special half-term Story Time on Wednesday 15 February 11:30am - 12:00pm.
The RSPB's Big Garden Birdwatch is back and will run between 27-29 January.
