President of the Liberal Democrats, Simon Hughes MP said today:
The Liberal Democrats have slammed the County Council's decision to carry on with its ever more expensive judicial review of the government's decision to abolish it and set up two new "Unitary Councils", one covering Bedford Borough and the other covering Mid and South Bedfordshire.
Open warfare has broken out between leading Conservatives over the government's decision to set up a new Unitary Council covering the Mid and South Bedfordshire District Council areas (as well as one for Bedford Borough).
Bedford Borough Council Planning Committee this week approved an application for a 425 home development behind Cardington airship sheds, and Liberal Democrats have responded by warning that the owners must meet their responsibility to maintain the grade 2 listed Number One Shed.
A Liberal Democrat proposal to tackle the environmental cost of throw away shopping bags has received overwhelming support at a Bedford Borough Council meeting. The successful motion could lead to a ban, a levy or a deposit scheme for throw away shopping bags in the borough.
Bedford Borough Liberal Democrats have attacked the Mayor's decision to ignore the recommendation of the Council's Scrutiny Committee and confirm the decision to demolish the garages on Bradgate Road, Bedford without investigating other options.
