Councillor Henry Vann statement on the prorogation of parliament

henry Councillor Henry Vann, Parliamentary Spokesperson for the Liberal Democrats in Bedford and Kempston commenting on the prorogation of parliament said "It is a complete disgrace. This Prime Minister hasn't faced the electorate and his government doesn't have a majority in the House of Commons. They claim to support democracy and want to return sovereignty to Parliament, but their actions show the opposite - they are trying to stop all scrutiny and just want to force a disastrous no-deal Brexit through. What are they scared of?"

PM is trying to remove the voice of the people

Responding to the Government asking the Queen to suspend Parliament from mid-September, Liberal Democrat Leader Jo Swinson said "Shutting down Parliament is an act of cowardice from Boris Johnson. He knows the people would not choose a No Deal and that elected representatives wouldn't allow it. He is trying to stifle their voices. By suspending Parliament to force through a No Deal, Boris Johnson and the Government would remove the voice of the people at the most important time. It is a dangerous and unacceptable course of action which the Liberal Democrats will strongly oppose."

UK will not be net zero by 2050 if Tories ignore climate emergency

Responding to the Science and Technology Committee's report which has highlighted the lack of policies in place to deliver the net zero target by 2050, Liberal Democrat Shadow Secretary of State for Climate Change and the Environment Wera Hobhouse MP said "Climate change is the major crisis affecting not just the UK, but the world. This report confirms what we already know: the Conservatives are squandering the legacy of the Liberal Democrats in Coalition and failing to take the climate emergency seriously, despite the devastation that will be caused if we sit on our hands. Liberal Democrats demand better."
