Next week the Court of Appeal will hear the challenge against the decision to award an environmental permit for the Covanta Incinerator at Rookery South Pit near Stewartby. With the court date just days away on 2nd or 3rd July, the fundraising appeal by local campaign group Bedfordshire Against Covanta Incinerator (BACI) is still over £12,000 short of its £38,000 target.
The Bedford International Writing Competition is open until 31 October 2019 for poems (up to 40 lines) and short stories (up to 3,000 words). There is a first prize of £500 in each category and extra £100 prizes (sponsored by the Harpur Trust) for the best poem or short story written by a resident of Bedford Borough. This year there is also a new £100 for the best short story written by a writer aged between seventeen and thirty.
Armed Forces Day Celebrations got underway in Bedford on Monday with a flag-raising ceremony at Borough Hall.
New timetables for the Bedford Council Mobile Library will commence on Monday 1st July.
