Responding to the Chancellor's Budget, Bedford Borough Liberal Democrat Crime and Policing spokesperson Councillor Sarah Gallagher said "Given the sharp rise of serious violence on our streets and the worsening crisis in our prisons, it's almost unbelievable that the Chancellor's Budget contained not a single penny to tackle these problems. Merely promising to 'review police spending power' isn't nearly good enough."
Commenting on yesterday's Budget delivered by the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Mayor Dave Hodgson has noted that the claim that 'austerity is over' has proven to be simply not true, and called on the government to cut out the spin and reverse the ongoing cuts for local services.
Responding to the Chancellor's Budget, Liberal Democrat Leader and former Business Secretary Vince Cable said "This was all very modest stuff, with more in it for potholes than schools and the police. A standstill non-event."
Mayor Dave Hodgson's Executive has resolved that Bedford Borough Council will become 'single-use' plastic-free by the end of 2020.
