Following confirmation of massive cuts in funding for local authorities in the Chancellor of the Exchequer's Autumn Statement, Mayor Dave Hodgson declared that it was a 'dark day for local services'.
Bedford's Big Christmas Lights Switch-On event is taking place tonight at 7pm, along The Embankment. This free Christmas event run by Bedford Borough Council will feature a spectacular firework display and the switching-on of the lights, to mark the start of a busy Christmas period in Bedford town centre.
