Bedford Borough Council has performed a dramatic U-turn over its plans for a 270-home housing development on the site of Mowsbury Golf Course. The proposals have been withdrawn just two weeks after being submitted as part of the process of allocating sites for development in the Borough between now and 2021. On a night when a motion calling for a referendum on the narrow technical issue of the EU Reform Treaty was unsuccessful, Liberal Democrats outlined their desire to see the debate opened up and called for a referendum on whether Britain should remain a Member of the European Union.
British Telecom have announced plans to remove 28 public payphones from a variety of both urban and rural locations across Bedford Borough. Liberal Democrats have called for BT to justify the removals by providing individual usage figures for the payphones and stating the criteria they have used to identify call boxes for removal.
