Successful trial of Green Travel Plan for schools

During Bike to School Week and ahead of next week's Climate Change Committee, Liberal Democrat Councillor Jake Sampson welcomed the success of the Green Travel Plan by the council's Sustainable Transport Team and said that "It's brilliant to see the Sustainable Transport Team being so active in getting schools to take responsibility for getting their students to school in an environmentally friendly way. I'm glad to see that the team has recognised the environmental damage which is being caused by idling cars. We have had an issue at a school in Newham Ward, where residents living nearby have complained about the noise and air pollution caused by parents waiting outside the school to pick up their children. Idling cars are a danger to children's health as they add toxic fumes into the air we breathe."

Resurfacing of a key route in Bedford is to commence this month after Bedford Borough Council and contractors worked successfully to reduce road closure requirements and to meet government coronavirus working guidelines.

Village Tour - My Thanks to All Who Came Out to Talk

The Village Tour 2012, or '60 in 30,' is now over, and I want to thank everyone who came out to speak to me at the 60 mobile surgeries across 60 villages in September's 30 days. The fact that so many residents talked to me to share their views on the important matters for our communities was very much appreciated, as was the welcome I received. A variety of weather conditions were experienced, and I am particularly grateful to those who braved wet and windy evenings or sweltering afternoons (we had both of these extremes, and plenty in between!) in the cause of taking the opportunity to talk to me directly while I was in the neighbourhood.
