Foxgloves to Remain Open Under New Proposals for Respite Care- Cllr David Sawyer

Foxgloves respite centre is set to remain open after Bedford Borough Council produced new plans for sustainable provision of respite care in the area. The new plans have been produced after close consultation with parents and users of the centre. Cllr David Sawyer, Liberal Democrat Portfolio Holder for Children's Services, said, "This process has been about finding a sustainable way to provide respite care services and by working with families involved and staff of the centre we have found a way to do this which involves keeping Foxgloves open. These proposals will now come to the Council's Executive in December.

WARTIME MENU - REFLECTS ON THE PAST

A special wartime menu will be available at Margaret Beaufort Middle School in Riseley, this Thursday 11th November, from 12.20pm - 1.20pm. A range of resources have been created to educate young people about what it was like to be at school in the 1940's and reflect on the sacrifices of members of the armed forces and of civilians in times of war.

Cllr Tim Hill says- THERE'S A RAY OF LIGHT FOR COVANTA CAMPAIGNERS

Local Campaigners against the giant Covanta Incinerator received a boost for their campaign this week when the Planning Inspector refused to accept that an Incinerator in Derbyshire was needed. This was despite an appeal from the Company wanting to build the Incinerator. The Planning Inspector said that one of the main reasons for turning the application down was, "…emissions from the plant and local residents' concerns about the impact on their health..."

NARROW THE GAP

The much anticipated 'Narrow the Gap' conference took place on Thursday 18th November, at the Robinson Executive Centre, Wyboston Lakes. Head teachers from across the borough were invited to consider strategies that are proving effective in narrowing attainment gaps for children eligible for free school meals.
