Bedford Borough Executive has made a commitment not to close any libraries despite over 340 libraries closing across the country over the last 6 years.
Rail fares are set to go up again for Bedford and Kempston commuters, with the Government announcing that another 1.9% increase is on the cards.
Students across Bedford Borough are celebrating exam success. Based on returns from 8 upper schools, provisional A Level results show 99.3% of pupils achieved one or more A* - E grades. Cllr Henry Vann, Portfolio Holder for Education at Bedford Borough Council, said: "Congratulations to everyone who got their results and thank you to all the parents, carers, teachers who have helped you on the way. Bedford Borough Council is working to develop a library strategy which will set out the vision for library services in the borough over the next few years. The library consultation process began earlier this year.
The Executive Committee of Bedford Borough Council has decided unanimously that schools across the Borough will now move to a two-tier system. The decision follows extensive work alongside schools and a public consultation which revealed strong support for the change. The Borough Council will provide strategic leadership and support to ensure a coherent, coordinated transition in the interests of all local children.
