A Bedford Borough school will soon be saving money on its energy bills and reducing its impact on the environment after receiving more than £16,000 from the Climate Change Fund.

Mayor Dave Hodgson has repeated his congratulations to students and school staff after national figures published by the Department for Education confirmed the dramatic rise in 2013 in attainment at GCSE level across Bedford Borough Schools. In a year which saw the proportion of young people achieving five A* - C grades falling nationally, here in Bedford Borough this figure rose by a massive 6.3%, from 53.4% to 59.7%. This was by far the biggest improvement in performance across the Eastern region, and places Bedford Borough schools' GCSE performance above the national average.
Yesterday, Monday 27th January, saw two major projects delivering real regeneration to Bedford Town Centre get underway. At Bedford Bus Station, where regeneration is already underway in the form of a new surface car park, public toilets and ongoing multi-storey refurbishment, the old bus station is being pulled down, to be replaced by a brand new facility which will open this year. Meanwhile, the Town Hall office block and annex (and the Riverside House Office Block) are also being demolished to make way for a large new public square by the river, opening up the riverside to the town centre.
