New figures show the number of people using a town centre car park has risen by a phenomenal 60%, since the Mayor's Free Parking Deal was introduced last month.
More than 8,000 homes in Bedford Borough will receive 'superfast broadband' by 2016 as part of a new local broadband project that has successfully secured Government funding.

Mayor Dave Hodgson has welcomed the government's support for the principle of the central section of the East West Rail link, from Bedford to Cambridge. The East West Rail Consortium, which comprises local authorities on the proposed route including Bedford Borough Council, has already commissioned a study into the economic benefits of the extension of the line, which will be operational between Reading and Bedford in 2017 following final approval by government and funding commitments by both government and local authorities this year. Now, the government has confirmed that it is developing proposals for the construction of the line between Bedford and Cambridge, and will be working alongside local authorities on the plans.
Mayor Dave Hodgson last week joined staff and pupils of Kempston Rural Lower School to turn the last nut in the steel framework and mark the launch of construction of new buildings for the school. The new £4.5 million construction will open in September 2014, and the school will operate as a two-form entry school for its reception years
