The recent CIPFA's annual library survey has found that spending by local authorities on public libraries fell by £30m in 2017/18 and that 127 service points were closed down this year. This is in contrast to Bedford Borough who, under Mayor Dave Hodgson's leadership, have kept all of our libraries open.

Next week, Bedford Borough Council's Executive will consider the Local Plan 2040 for its next and final stage of consultation.
The Bedford Kite Festival was visited by over 40,000 people last weekend - a record turnout. I was there on Saturday and spent time talking to kite flyers, stall holders and residents who had come down to enjoy the wonderful array of kites. Unfortunately the conditions on Saturday were not helpful to kite-flying, but that didn't seem to be hampering anyone's ability to enjoy themselves.
Today is World Book Day, and Bedford Borough Libraries have reminded everyone of the benefits of owning and using a library card for children and young people!
