Mayor Dave Hodgson laid a wreath this morning, on behalf of the people of Bedford Borough, at the The Bedford Scots' Society of St Andrew Remembrance Service for the Members of the Highland Regiments who were billeted in Bedford during the First World War and who sadly died of flu and other diseases before they saw battle.
It is with a mixture of joy and relief that I can report that, as of last night, St Mary's Street is fully reopened ahead of schedule, following the urgent repair works. The works started on 3rd October after a ground radar survey found the road was in serious danger of collapse due to a complete lack of drainage on one side of the road, which was only resurfaced four years ago by the former County Council.
Mayor Dave Hodgson has offered his thanks and congratulations to staff at Bedford Hospital working in difficult conditions as capacity in Accident and Emergency is stretched to the limit, after new nationally-published figures on A&E waiting times revealed the Hospital's performance is amongst the very best in the country.
It was World Homeless Day last week, and in his regular email update, Mayor Dave Hodgson thanked volunteers and organisations helping to support rough sleepers and tackle homelessness locally. He also shared a video from his recent visit to SMART Prebend Day Centre's open day, where Lisa from SMART listed the items they are asking people to donate at the moment.
