In yet another delay to important policy, it is rumoured that reforms to the Mental Health Act will not be fully implemented until 2030/31 despite having made the announcements in 2017. An independent review in December 2018 made 154 recommendations to urgently improve the service.
It is six months on from when Elstow Solar Farm first went operational, and it is already far exceeding expectations in terms of energy and income generation. The state-of-the-art solar farm has generated 1,926Mwh of energy, more than originally predicted. This has led to over £127,000 more income for the council than was originally estimated.
A fly-tipper has been fined this month for illegally dumping rubbish from their car. The waste was left outside the clothes recycling bank in Great Denham. This was carried out right in front of the no fly-tipping sign. The man responsible was identified by the Council's Environmental Crime Team from a CCTV camera in the area. The offender has been issued a Fixed Penalty Notice of £400.
Over the last few months, Mayor Dave Hodgson has announced a number of schemes and grants aimed at supporting Bedford Borough residents through the cost of living crisis. Some of the actions taken include helping to create a network of Warm Spaces, providing grants to a number of charities and organisations, as well as continuing to offer 100% Council Tax support to the most vulnerable residents.
