Mayor Dave Hodgson has announced that work is underway on a radical Town Centre decongestion plan for Bedford Town Centre, with the construction of the Council's planned new Road Bridge over the river at its heart.
Local Liberal Democrat Borough Councillor Tim Hill has been campaigning against the "boy racers" and "speed merchants" who have been treating Abbey Fields as a race track, especially during the summer months.
The construction of a completed western bypass will go ahead after Mayor Dave Hodgson announced that the Council has successfully overcome the array of obstacles blocking the crucial project. The Council is now issuing tender documents and building work is expected to start as soon as September.

Community groups are invited to apply to the Climate Change Fund for match funding of between £5,000 and £20,000 to fund measures that will contribute to the reduction of carbon emissions within Bedford Borough.
Elstow Bunyans Mead Residents Meeting - Residents have several concerns relating to Borough and BPHA responsibilities. The BPHA Warden invited Cllr Tim Hill and several reps from BPHA to a residents meeting to discuss these concerns. About 20 residents attended and lots of issues were raised. BPHA has now accepted it is responsible for maintenance of the pedestrianised area. Tim has also reported to BPHA residents issues on overgrown trees and street lights not working.
