Scots Society Remembrance Service Commemorates 'Important and Deeply Sad' Episode in Bedford's History

Remembrance events and activities are already underway across Bedford Borough, and on Sunday Mayor Dave Hodgson attended the Scots Society's Remembrance Service at Foster Hill Road. The service was a remembrance for all service personnel who have lost their lives in the armed forces, and it commemorates the large number of members of the Highland regiments who were stationed in Bedford prior to heading to the Front in the First World War, and who sadly lost their lives in large numbers due to infection and illness.

Wellbeing Expo

Wellbeing Expo

SpectaculArts are holding a Barbering Exhibition and Wellbeing Expo today in the Harpur Suite from 12-5pm. The event aims to be a safe space for those within Bedford and beyond to access mental health support they may not know was available to them. There will be a number of guest speakers, exercise classes and resources available.

Bedford's Forgotten Polar Connection: Unveiling of Bedford's Latest Blue Hertitage Plaque

A Blue Heritage Plaque was unveiled last week at the former Bedford home of the Polar Explorer Aeneas Mackintosh. Mayor Dave Hodgson was in attendance at the formal unveiling at 43 Beverley Crescent, which Mackintosh rented in 1914 in order that his wife could be close to her relatives while he was away leading the Ross Sea Advance Party of Sir Ernest Shackleton's Trans Antarctic Expedition.
