Rough Sleeping - Mayor's Thanks to Volunteers and How to Help

It was World Homeless Day last week, and in his regular email update, Mayor Dave Hodgson thanked volunteers and organisations helping to support rough sleepers and tackle homelessness locally. He also shared a video from his recent visit to SMART Prebend Day Centre's open day, where Lisa from SMART listed the items they are asking people to donate at the moment. Poorly insulated homes in Bedford Borough paying £23 million more in heating bills

Families in Bedford Borough are paying over £23 million more a year for their energy bills because they are living in poorly insulated homes, research by the Liberal Democrats has revealed. Bedford Borough Liberal Democrats are demanding that the government urgently invest in fixing leaky homes in the area and cut people's energy bills in the long term.

Wootton Roadworks Farce 'Beggars Belief'

Residents in Wootton have been left fuming after the County Council's road contractor left road maintenance works unfinished after striking two water mains, one of which continued to spew out water over a week after being burst. The works on Potters Cross remain incomplete despite the legal notice for the works stating that they would be finished by July 7th. The legal notice for the works also stated that the entire road would be resurfaced, when in fact just a few metres have been repaired.

BT Looks to Wield Axe on Local Payphones

British Telecom have announced plans to remove 28 public payphones from a variety of both urban and rural locations across Bedford Borough. Liberal Democrats have called for BT to justify the removals by providing individual usage figures for the payphones and stating the criteria they have used to identify call boxes for removal.
