Tory failures result in increase in violent crime

Responding to the latest official figures which have revealed a 19% rise in violent crime recorded by police in England and Wales, Bedford Borough Liberal Democrat Policing Spokesperson Sarah Gallagher said "We are facing an epidemic of violent crime. Behind these shocking figures lies hundreds of tragedies of young lives cut short. All Conservative Ministers have done is make things worse.

Liberal Democrats slam government for not prioritising GP access for residents

Last night Bedford Borough Liberal Democrats moved a motion calling on the government to release funding and prioritise new GP surgeries so that Bedford Borough residents can get better access to GPs. The motion was passed with unanimous support from all parties. Councillors from Labour, Green, Independent and even the Conservative Party all voted for the Liberal Democrat motion slamming the Conservative government for its health infrastructure policy.

Scots Society Remembrance Service Commemorates 'Important and Deeply Sad' Episode in Bedford's History

Remembrance events and activities are already underway across Bedford Borough, and on Sunday Mayor Dave Hodgson attended the Scots Society's Remembrance Service at Foster Hill Road. The service was a remembrance for all service personnel who have lost their lives in the armed forces, and it commemorates the large number of members of the Highland regiments who were stationed in Bedford prior to heading to the Front in the First World War, and who sadly lost their lives in large numbers due to infection and illness.

Changes to Council Services

Bedford Borough Council continues to update its coronavirus webpage with all changes to council services and other important information. Updates on Saturday 21st March included the closure of all libraries, barring the limited exception of Bedford Central Library, which will be open today, Sunday 22nd March, from midday - 2pm for the use of public computers by library users only.
